Abstract
591,143. Rotary pumps &c. JESSOP, R. E. E. July 20, 1944, No. 13944. [Class 110 (ii)] In a rotary pump of the roller vane type, the diameter of the rollers is slightly greater than the depth of the rotor recesses in which they operate, and either the rollers or the linings of the pump body and the rotor recesses are of resilient material, which may be rubber. The casing 16, Figs. 1 and 2, is elliptical to provide two pressure chambers 18, 19. Inlet ports 20, 21 are interconnected by a passage 24 and outlet ports 22, 23 are interconnected by a passage 25. The casing may be of metal or plastic or a combination of both. The rollers 11 are of rubber or other resilient material or of plastic or metal ; in the latter case, the casing and the recesses 10 are lined with rubber or other resilient material. The bearings 12, 13 may be lined with antifriction material 30, 33. A gland 32, which may be of rubber, is held in position by a cap nut 31 and has a feather edge to fit between the shaft and the bearing. In an alternative construction, Fig. 4, a number of rotors A<1> are mounted on a shaft B<1>, and a cap piece 37 has recesses 36, 38 to interconnect the inlet ports 34 and outlet ports 35 respectively. A port 41 is provided to allow fluid to pass from chamber 18 to chamber 19. The device may be used as a motor.
