Abstract

743,088. Rotary pumps and engines. MOORE, R. J. F. Aug. 24, 1953 [Aug. 25, 1952], No. 23227/53. Class 110(2) A multiple rotary pump or motor, Fig. 1, comprises two rotors 15a, 15b which are of opposite but equal eccentricity for balancing purposes. The rotors are mounted on a common shaft 16 and have spring-loaded radially extending vanes 16a 16b respectively. The flow of fluid through the chambers 10a, 10b is indicated by the arrows 17a, 17b respectively. In a modification, Fig. 2, the multiple pump comprises three variable capacity pumps A, B, C as disclosed in Specification 453,908 which are mounted on a shaft 16 journalled in antifriction bearings 24. The capacity of the pump B may be equal to that of the pumps A, C or the pump B may be replaced by two equal capacity pumps having the same direction of eccentricity. Means are provided for adjusting the cylinders 10a, 10b, 10c simultaneously in their casings so that the eccentricity of the rotor 15b is at all times opposite to that of the rotors 15a, 15c; the position of said cylinders determining the output of the pump and the direction of flow therethrough. The rotors may be of the slidable vane type shown in Fig. 1, or are as disclosed in the Specification referred to above. In a modification, ;(Fig. 4, not shown) the rotors of two pumps have opposite eccentricities, the cylinders being simultaneously adjusted in opposite directions.
