Abstract
1359843 Rotary engines T R SARICH 6 July 1971 [6 July 1970] 31715/71 Heading F1F In a rotary motor (as shown, an I. C. engine) a rotor 40 is eccentrically mounted on a shaft 16 within a cylindrical housing 10 having a peripheral wall 18, end-walls 11, 11a, and a plurality of vanes 70 are mounted to reciprocate radially relative to the axis of shaft 16 as the rotor orbits, seals being provided between the vanes and the rotor 40, the peripheral wall 18 and the endwalls 11, 11a, the latter being provided with inlet ports 85 and exhaust ports 88 respectively, controlled by the rotor. The vanes 70 are guided in slots 20, 27 in the wall 18 and between sectorshaped plates 24, 25 secured to the end-walls 11, 11a, and are secured to the rotor by studs 76 on the end of arms 72 engaging in slots 45, the rotor having a number of flat peripheral portions on which the vanes slide, the rotor being guided in its orbital motion by three members 50 having two relatively eccentric journals rotatably engaging the end-wall and the rotor. The wall 18 has coolant passages 19 and the space between the wall 18 and the outer wall of the housing 10 may be filled with oil and outwardly moving vanes tend to increase the oil pressure to produce an inward force for the inwardly moving vanes. A counterweight 32 located within the rotor 40 for rotation with the eccentric 17 provides static and dynamic balancing of the shaft 16.
