Abstract
580,890. Rotary pumps. HILL, H. R., and PORTLOOK, H. June 23, 1944, Nos. 11940/44 11941/44 and 7825/45. [Class 110 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIX] A fluid power transmission having a pump 5 and a motor 6 of the outwardly-sliding vane type, with inner and outer working chambers 28, 27 respectively, is provided with rotary casing walls 9, 12, 18 and 9a, 12a, 18a. To vary the capacities of the working chambers, eccentrics 41, 42 are rotated in opposite directions by a bevel wheel 46 which meshes with gears 49, 45, integral with sleeves fixed to the eccentrics. A central fixed partition 4 has recesses for projections 22 on the rotors, containing passages 23, 24, connecting with inlet and discharge ports 29, 300 respectively. Rotor segments 11 are secured to rotor end plates 9, 12, and between each pair of segments two-part vanes 15, 16, are located. These bear through packing pieces 51 , on rotating rings 17, 19. Other packing blocks 19. are pressed outwards by rubber rings 36. and have stops to prevent rotation. Fluid pressure is exerted on the backs of spring-pressed packing blocks 32, 320, in the partitions 4, by way of ducts 59, 590. Fluid discharged from the pump 5 passes to the motor inlet 300a by way of a passage 640, or an inlet 30a by way of a passage 64. This secures balance of end thrust between driving and driven shafts 1, 2. Rotation of a control shaft 47 causes eccentrics 41, 42, to rotate in opposite directions to impart a displacement to the inner and outer walls 17, 18. The vanes maintain the radial spacing of the walls 17, 18. The outer wall is guided by parallel slides 55 carrying bearings 56. Resilient or spring members and fluid pressure may be used to press parts 15, 16 of the vanes apart. The shafts 1, 2 may be driven in reverse directions, or at varying speeds. The first Provisional Specification states that other than outwardly sliding vanes may be used.
