Abstract

931,537. Rotary pumps and motors. V. J. KERMOND. March 5, 1962 [Dec. 5, 1960], No. 41707/60. Class 110 (2). [Also in Groups XXIX and XXXI] Relates to change-speed mechanism for the hydraulic transmission of power (see Group XXIX), in which a number of radial vane pumps 3 . . . 7, Fig. 1, are successively introduced into hydraulic circuits leading to radial vane motors 34, 38. The motors each comprise a rotor 40, Fig. 2, formed with radially disposed slots 42 containing vanes 43 biased by springs 49 to engage the eccentric inner surface 46 of a surrounding housing having inlet and outlet ports 44, 45, which, as shown, are of dual configuration. The pumps 3 . . . 7 are of similar construction, but the springs 49 are dispensed with, the vanes 43 being biased radially outwards by the pressure of liquid supplied from an engine-driven gear pump 8, Fig. 1, through a shaft duct 50 to the rotors 40, and thence to the slots 42 containing the vanes. The two motors 34 normally drive independent half-shafts 33, Fig. 3, in a motor vehicle, a positive clutch 35 between the two motors being manually engageable to couple the half-shafts together. The two motors 38 drive independently to the front wheels of the vehicle.
