Fixed-abutment type; balancing moving parts; regulating motors and pumps.-In a, rotary pump or motor wherein a rotor drum 2 carries outwardly-sliding vanes 8, the casing 3 is mounted so as to be freely rotatable. Ducts 9 in the drum 2 register in turn with inlet and outlet passages 12, 13 formed in a hollow central member 10 having a partition 11. The inner ends of the vanes are periodically exposed to the suction and delivery pressures to balance end-thrust by means of ducts 16, 16<1> in the member 10 leading to grooves 14, 14<1> separated by abutments 15, 15', the spaces 7 behind the vanes communicating with the grooves 14, 14' by ducts 17. In a modification for use in both directions of rotation pressure-operated valves are provided in ducts in the member 10 so that pressure fluid for balancing is supplied behind the vanes for both forward and reverse working. The capacity and the direction of delivery of the pump may be regulated by displacing the bearings of the rotary casing with respect to those of the drum. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 16252/99 and 24512/08.
