749,569. Rotary pumps. OVRETVEIT, K. A. March 17, 1955 [April 15, 1954], No. 11122/54. Class 110(2) In a reversible pump a main rotor 3 carries vanes 7 which co-act with slots 21 ... 24 in one or more rotary abutments 12, 13, the latter being provided with by-passes to allow free flow of fluid around the vanes when they pass through the slots. In Fig. 1, the vanes 7 extend axially from the rotor 3 into two annular working chambers 8 and co-act with four rotary abutments 12, 13 to pump fluid from and to main ports 10, 11. Gears 33, 34, 35 couple the main and abutment shafts, the bearings of which, 4, 14, 15 are axially adjustable. Each abutment rotor overlaps the main rotor, recesses 25, 26 being provided to allow the vanes free passage through the slots 21 ... 24 (see Fig. 4), some fluid being forced by the vanes through the by-passes in the hollow abutment rotors to auxiliary outlets 30, which may lead to the main outlets 11. The vanes 7 may be of metal lined with plastic material 7A, Fig. 5 (not shown). To relieve excessive fluid pressure on an end seal 37, passages 50, 51, 54 allow surplus fluid to pass to an external tank. In a second arrangement, Figs. 6, 7, by-pass slots 63, 64 connect with recesses 61, 65, and communicate with the main ports 10, 11. Fig. 9 shows another arrangement in which the hollow abutment rotors have sealing extensions 70, and end clearances 71 for the vanes. Wide running clearances 72 are arranged for the rotors.
