Abstract

855,386. Externally-meshing gear pumps. BORG-WARNER CORPORATION. March 15, 1957 [April 6, 1956], No. 8697/57. Class 110 (2). A variable - capacity rotary pump, meter or motor of the internally-meshing gear type, Fig. 1, is controlled by a block member 31 which is disposed adjacent the meshing position of the gears 20, 29 and is provided with a plate 38 having an opening 41 to provide communication between the opening 40 in the member 31 and the outlet port 25. The member 31 is also provided with a checkvalve, see Fig. 3 (not shown), and a control-rod 32 which is moved manually or by means of a servomotor system. Bearings 21, 23, 24, 30 are arranged as shown, together with passages 50 for permitting a flow of leakage fluid around the member 23. In a modification, Figs. 8, 9 and 10 (not shown), the drive is transmitted to the externally-toothed gearwheel as opposed to the outer ring gear. In a second modification, Fig. 12, the pump is designed to give a constant flow and is provided with an arcuate block 90 which is connected by a spring 92 to a fixed block 91 and is furnished with inter-communicating cavities 93, 94, see also Figs. 11, 13-16 (not shown). In a third modification, Fig. 18, pressure-responsive means are provided to effect a constant pump pressure output comprising a sliding block member, a pair of fixed block members 117, 118 which may form a unitary structure and a series of support-blocks 120, passages 121, 122, 123 being provided as shown, see also Figs. 17, 19 and 20 (not shown). In a final modification, Fig. 22, comprising a block having provisions for a stepped loading thereof, the block 143 is provided with a plurality of ports 148-1S4 which are adapted to communicate with the pockets formed between the teeth of the gears 134, 139. The block is provided with cavities 157, 158, 159 having pressure-loaded pistons 160, 161, 162 which are disposed therein and are subjected to different pressures. The bearing- ring 23 of Fig. 1 may consist of a plurality of segments each supplied with fluid at a different pressure through a passage 50. Specification 855,387 is referred to.
