[Class 110 (ii)] The casing side-wall 6, 7, or the sides of the gears 1 themselves, are provided with shallow pockets 22 and radial slots 23 connecting the pockets with the journals 5, of the gear-shafts, to allow oil under pressure to prevent contact between the gears and the walls 6, 7. In addition, auxiliary inlet and outlet chambers 36, 37 may be provided to secure radial pressure balancing across the gears. Inlet and outlet ports 14, 15 are provided. The shallow pockets 22 may be tapered to secure a Michell-bearing effect, and each extends over an arc of between 30 and 60 degrees, and the dimensions are such as described in Specification 539,753, [Group XXXIV]. Grooves 24, which may be chamfered from the walls 6, 7 contain oil under a pressure due to leakage from a delivery port 27 to a suction port 26, the oil also lubricating the bearings. The chambers 36, 37 are connected to inlet and outlet chambers 34, 35 respectively, by passages in the casing walls. In this case, the radial slots 23 may have three choices of position, between parts 34, 37 or 37, 36, or 36, 35. Leakage-collecting grooves 16, 17 and a non- return valve 21, such as described in Specification 592,695, may be provided. Dowels 13A, 13B, as described in Specification 593,621, [Group XXV], may be used in the casing parts. The Provisional Specification says that the invention may be applied to vane-type pumps.
