Class 110(ii) A sliding-vane engine or pump has end-sealing members 17, 18, which may be of hard rubber, under external pressure of fluid which is supplied through ducts 20, 21, 24, the fluid also acting as a lubricant. Inlet ports 12, 13 and outlet ports 14, 15, diametrically opposite one another are connected by ducts leading to inlet and outlet connections 8, 9, Fig. 1 (not shown). A duct 27 allows communication between the inner ends of a pair of vane slots 26 as shown. Additional inlet and outlet passages 12a ... 15a and sealing abutment members 29, in slots 28, may also be provided. The vanes 25 may be rectangular in section or formed with facial grooves and recesses 30 ... 34. Soft rubber sealing rings 23 are provided at the ends of a casing liner 6. The lower part of the casing is provided with a drain.
