Abstract

625,490. Rotary pumps. ROOTS-CONNERSVILLE BLOWER CORPORATION. June 23, 1947, No. 16505. Convention date, July 11, 1946. [Class 110(ii)] A pump of the Roots' blower type, used for pumping hot gases has gas at a higher pressure, but lower temperature introduced from any source into direct contact with the impellers 16 and/or hot gases s passed through a jacket 32, to avoid variation in the running clearances due to differential expansion between the impellers and the casing. Gases from a delivery pipe 24, Fig. 3, are passed through pipes 28, 29 and coolers 30, 31 and admitted to the working chamber where shown. Gases are also circulated through the jacket 32 by way of inlets 33. In a modification the cooling gases are passed into one or both ends of the casing. The rotor shafts 10, 11 are geared together so that the rotors do not make contact with each other. The rotors may be of involute or cycloidal design. Gases other than those being pumped, may be used for cooling.
