Abstract

335,735. Sollors, W. H., Green, R. C. C., and Tarrant, H. W. R. Sept. 24, 1929. Fixed-abutment type; cooling and heating parts. - Tapered cooling ribs 3 on the casing 1 of a rotary compressor of the outwardly-sliding vane type form a helix and other ribs 8 mesh with the ribs 3 but substantial clearance is left between the two helices. Further ribs 9 helical or otherwise may be provided in an outer jacket 11. A cooling medium enters by a pipe 12 circulates from left to right around the ribs, that is in an opposite direction to the flow of fluid being pumped, passes through a port 14 and leaves by way of a pipe 13. In a modification one helix only is provided in the cooling jacket. A fan or pump for supplying the cooling medium to the jacket may be driven off the main compression shaft.
