Abstract

809,443. Rotary pumps; stuffing-box substitutes. HERAEUS G.m.b.H., W. C. Feb. 28, 1955 [Feb. 27, 1954; April 1, 1954; May 10, 1954; Sept. 2, 1954], No. 5872/55. Classes 110 (2) and 122 (5). A Roots pump, Fig. 1, is provided with a twowalled casing defining chambers 3a, 3b together with a chamber 3, if so desired, adapted to be evacuated. An electric motor 5, 6 having a cooling jacket 12 and fins 13 is disposed in the chamber 3a whilst a pump 39 for feeding lubricant to the chamber 14 in the motor and for feeding lubricant to the bearings through ducts 40 is disposed in the chamber 3b. The hollow rotors 37a, 37b are geared together at one or both ends. In a modification, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the pump is vertically disposed and a motor is provided for each rotor shaft. In a final modification, Fig. 8, a low-pressure stage pump 85 is mounted in parallel with a preliminary stage pump 84 in a common casing 78. Specifications 662,121 and 809,445 are referred to.
