Abstract
757,577. Elastic-Quid turbines and compressors. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. Oct. 4, 1954 [Oct. 9, 1953], No. 28477/54. Classes 110(1) and 110(3) In a multi-stage axial flow turbine or as shown, a compressor having adjustable stator blades 8 the latter are all carried by a cylindrical member 9 disposed between the rotor 1 and the housing 6 of the machine. The adjusting mechanism for the stator blades is disposed in the chamber 7 formed between the housing and the rotor. A flange 10 on the carrier 9 enters a groove 11 in the housing and abutting lugs 12, 13 on the housing and carrier are secured together by screws at 14, 15 with heads engaging longitudinal slots in the lugs 13. Longitudinal shafts 20 carry pinions 23 and bevel wheels 21 meshing with a ring gear 25 and bevel wheels 22 on the guide blades. The ring gear is driven by a bevel wheel 28 on a motor 27. Alternatively it may be hand operated. In place of shafts 20 thrust rods operating the blades through levers or gearing may be used. Other designs employ separate mechanisms for adjusting the earlier and later stages. The carrier may be fixed at the centre and make labyrinth seals at its ends with the housing.
