Abstract

579,780. Centrifugal and turbo-compressors. JONES, J. S. Nov. 19, 1943, No. 19389. [Class 110 (i)] The main stage of a centrifugal or of an axial-flow compressor is preceded by a ring of blades 14 which are rotated at a speed 'less than that of the rotor. In the case shown, the blades 14 are rotated at half-speed from the pump shaft through gearing 17, 18, 19, 20. A double entry centrifugal pump arrangement is described in which the first stage guide blades are rotated by bevel-wheel epicyclic gears. The centrifugal impellers carry inlet guide blades 13.
