Abstract
564,336. Axial flow compressors. ESCHER WYSS MASCHINENFABRIKEN AKT.-GES. June 28, 1943, No. 10432. Convention date, June 29, 1942. [Glass 110 (i)] In a multi-stage axial flow compressor, the area covered bv each blade 2 decreases from the inlet side 5 to the outlet side 6 for the purpose of keeping the flow velocity constant. The decrease may be effected by sloping the root 4 of the blade as in Fig. 2, or the periphery 7, as in Fig. 4, the casing and wall 1<1> being correspondingly sloped in the latter case. In another form, both root and periphery are sloped. The area covered by the inlet guide vanes is constant.
