Abstract

604,378. Centrifugal pumps. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. Sept. 17, 1945, No. 23940. Convention date, Oct. 2, 1944. [Class 110 (i)] In a helico-centrifugal compressor having rotor blades 8 extending radially with respect to the axis and in which the medium leaving the rotor has substantial components of velocity in the circumferential radial and axial directions, a guide and diffuser assembly is provided having guide passages 12 where the medium issuing from the rotor is deflected into a generally axial direction so as to eliminate its radial and circumferential components of velocity without altering its total velocity, and diffuser passages 13 where the velocity of the medium is decreased to increase its pressure while its direction is not materially changed. The axes of the diffuser passages 13 may be parallel to, converge towards, or lie obliquely to the rotor axis.
