Abstract

589,689. Bayonet fastenings. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 27, 1945, No. 7664. Convention date, March 31, 1944. [Class 44] [Also in Group XXVI] A supercharging compressor driven by an exhaust driven turbine 10 has a volute chamber 27 with a substantially uniform external diameter and extending inwards, as at 42, to provide the increasing cross-section. The impeller 16 discharges into a diffuser with parallel walls 31, 32 and a series of peripheral notches 34 as outlets. The diffuser is secured to one casing part 24 by shouldered studs 38 and to the other casing part 23 by a multi-toothed bayonet fastening 43, 44. As shown in Fig. 2, radial projection 44 with bevelled front edges 45 on one disc-like part pass under the overhanging portions of lugs 43 on the other disc-like part.
