Abstract

863,361. Centrifugal compressors. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO. Ltd. Aug. 30, 1957 [Sept. 6, 1956], No. 27263/56. Class 110 (1). In the centrifugal compressor shown, a part 1 forms the axial inlet, is swept by the front edges of the impeller vanes 2, and forms part of the diffuser passage 3. The part 1 is removably attached by studs 9 to a radial surface of the compressor casing, with an annular shoulder engaged by an annular lip 8. The output of the compressor can be altered by replacing the impeller by a different one and replacing the part 1 by a part shaped to conform to the profile of the vanes of the new impeller and to provide inlet and diffuser passages of the required form.
