Abstract

347,766. Centrifugal compressers. WHITTLE, F., Hill Crest, Dorrington, Lincoln. Oct. 16, 1930, No. 1520. [Class 110 (i).] Casings.-Means are provided on a compresser to give the entering fluid an angular movement in the direction of rotation of the rotor. The impeller has radial blades 2 which are broader and thicker at their roots than at their tips, and it runs inside a diffuser 5. The inlet chamber has an annular inlet 6 and contains a rotor with a reaction type blading 7 to give the fluid a high angular velocity before it enters the main impeller. The apparatus may be modified for propulsive purposes.
