Abstract
502,414. Elastic - fluid turbines. LEIST, K. Sept. 13, 1937, No. 24928. [Class 110 (iii)J In a partial admission axial-flow gas or steam turbine, the rotor blades to which driving fluid is not being admitted pass through a zone in which they are cooled by the passage of air. Fig. 1 shows a gas turbine I driving an aircraft propeller 3, the plant comprising a combustion chamber 7, an air compressor 5, and a preheater 6. Combustion products pass to the rotor I through nozzles 8, and in the regions 22 where gas is not admitted, cooling air from the slip stream passes through guides 9. A freely rotating bladed wheel 4 exerts a suction effect. The rotor blades F may be formed by slotting the rotor periphery and then twisting the upstanding parts.
