Abstract
586,551. Gas turbines. BAUMANN, K. and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Oct. 14, 1941, No. 13247. [Class 110 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXIII] In a gas turbine jet propulsion plant for aircraft, the exhaust of the turbine driving the air-compressor, before reaching the propulsion jet, passes through oppositely rotating rings of turbine blades on rotors which also carry aircompressor blades or air-screws. Air energized by these blades is added to the propulsion jet stream. The number of rings of turbine blades is greater than the number of rings of compressor blades or air-screws. Fig. 1 shows one of the many arrangements described which uses air-compressor blades Ia, IIa. When air-screws are used the outer casing 5 is omitted. The guiding cone 1a, which may be continued as indicated by the dotted line, may rotate with the turbine rotor III. The driving gases may be caused to pass two or three times through each rotor disc concentric rings of blades being provided for this purpose. Specifications 459,365 and 583,111 are referred to.
