Abstract
585,509. Gas turbines. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. April 13, 1944, No. 6873. Convention date, Feb. 3, 1943. [Class 110 (iii)] A gas turbine plant, the exhaust of which is used for the jet-propulsion of aircraft, is started by means of a cartridge burning an explosive or by other source of compressed gas which is delivered by a pipe 37 to an annular cavity 36 surrounding the main turbine blades 17. The gases issue from the cavity through nozzles 35 and impact on the turbine blade. Alternatively, the gases may be delivered to an adjacent cavity 43 and issue through nozzles similar to those at 35 but between the stator blades 21. Specification 582,151 is referred to.
