Abstract

616,695. Gas turbines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. April 17, 1945, No. 9633. Convention date, April 21, 1944. [Class 110 (iii)] In a power plant comprising a gas turbine 15, a compressor 1 driven by the turbine, and one or more combustion chambers 8 which are supplied with air by the compressor, combustion gas from an auxiliary combustion chamber is supplied to a starting nozzle or nozzles 18 for starting the plant. The auxiliary combustion chamber 17 is fed with air or oxygen under pressure from a flask 20 which is detachably connected thereto at 19, and with fuel from a tank 22, the mixture being ignited by a sparking-plug 26. The ring of nozzles 13 is used for normal running. The compressor 1 is of the centrifugal type. Specification 590,422 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also comprises the statement that the plant may be started by compressed air. oxygen, steam or other suitable gas supplied by the flask 20 without the use of fuel. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
