Abstract

[Class 110 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] In a jet propulsion or gas turbine power unit in which the combustion chamber is supported at one end by a joint connecting it to the compressor casing or to a member rigidly connected to the compressor casing and at its other end by a joint connecting it to a member of the power unit, the joint at one of the ends of the combustion chamber locates the combustion chamber axially and allows a limited range of universal angular setting of the combustion chamber relative to the member of the power unit to which it is connected. The joint, Fig. 2, connecting the combustion chamber to the outlet 8 from the compressor comprises a ring 11 which is spigotted in the outlet 8 and which has a spherical joint face 10 which co-operates with a similar face on the inlet to the combustion chamber. The joint is held together by bolts 9. The joint, Fig. 4, connecting the combustion chamber to the nozzle box 18 comprises a ring-member 16 which has, on one side, a spherical surface 20 engaged by a corresponding surface of a ring nut 19 and which is separated on the other side, from the flange of the nozzle box 18 by a packing ring 21 of flexible material. The ring 21 may be a steel-and-asbestos washer. The joint of Fig. 4 may be replaced by one according to Specification 584,820.
