Class 110(iii) In a jet-propulsion plant for aircraft, Fig. 1, a compressor a is driven by an I.C. engine c. The air-stream from the compressor is divided, part passing over the engine as cooling air on its way to the propulsion jet and the remainder passing directly to the jet. Fuel may be burnt, as at d, e, in either or both streams. The volume of flow in the cooling air-stream is varied by means of an axially-sliding obturator f which may be moved by a servo-motor g, h under the control of a temperature-responsive device k subjected to the temperature of the engine exhaust or of an engine part such as a valve. In a second plant, Fig. 2, the downstream end of the cooling air duct is telescopic and that end is positioned so that the pressures of the cooling air and the outer air-streams are equal where they mix. A second telescopic tube, around the tube l, may be provided which carries an obturator for the outer air-stream. The tube I may be moved by a servo-motor under thermostatic control and the second tube, by a servo-motor under hand control. Specifications 616,349, 617,164, 618,781 and 650,661 are referred to.
