Abstract
777,694. Gas turbine jet propulsion plant. SHARMA, D. N. April 16, 1953 [April 16, 1952], No. 9510/52. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XII] In a jet power plant, having a turbo-jet and a ram-jet duct in combination, ambient air is introduced along the length of the frame following the turbine section. As shown, ambient air is admitted to section 5A, 6A through such apertures as 38, 39 under control of flaps 41, 43, 45, 46, 47, 48. In addition to the intake of air through the compressor 10, 11, air is also urged through the hollow interior of the compressor, past the spokes 15 by the pump 24, 25. For de-icing purposes, hot gases from the turbine pass forward through the hollow shaft 26 to the de-icing hood 28. Gases from the turbine pass through 5A into the after burner 6A. Additional fuel is admitted at 49 and through nozzles 56, 57, fired by a burner 50 and discharged through the ram-jet section 7A under the control of the adjustable shutters 8A. In a further embodiment, not shown, de-icing is effected by moving hot gas from the turbine both to the deicing hood and to the front sections of the compressor spider.
