Abstract
685,988. Gas turbine jet propulsion plant. JENDRASSIK, G. June 13, 1950 [June 14, 1949], No. 21783/52. Divided out of 685,942. Class 110(iii) A jet-propulsion plant including a gas turbine 20 has pressure-exchanger 2 which supplies lowpressure air to a jet nozzle 3 and high-pressure hot gas which divides, one stream passing to the turbine 20, the second stream passing through a combustion chamber 11. The latter is returned through a duct 12 to the input side of the high-pressure scavenging zone of the exchanger. The turbine exhaust passes through a second jet nozzle 23. Fans, such as 14, may be used to assist in scavenging the exchanger cells. The rotor of the exchanger is mounted on a shaft 19 carrying a driving motor (not shown). Compression of the air in the exchanger is effected by expanding hot gases therein. Transfer pipes 17 connect expansion and compression cells. Gas delivered to a nozzle may be re-heated by burner means. The intermediate duct 6 between the fan 14 and the exchanger 2 is of constant cross-sectional area. The turbine, through reduction gearing, drives an airscrew hub 21, when the plant is used on an aircraft. Any type of pressure-exchanger may be used.
