Abstract

591,113. Generating combustion products under pressure. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd., and FEILDEN, G.B.R. Jan. 16, 1945, No. 1354. [Class 51 (i)] [Also in Groups XI and XXVI] A combustion apparatus, particularly for a gas turbine plant, in which the fuel is injected in a downstream direction into a flame chamber enclosed within an air duct, has the fuel injector burner, which supports the upstream end of the flame chamber detachably mounted on a structural member of the air duct which lies in and divides the air stream and through which pass the fuel supply connections to the burner. The flame chamber is attached to the burner by releasable locking means which allows its easy withdrawal in the axial direction. A burner 5 is mounted on the downstream edge of a structural member 7 of aerofoil form in cross-section which lies in and divides the airstream so as to be removable therefrom without disturbing the fuel supply connections. The burner, which is of the. spill controlled type, receives fuel from an inlet connection 10 through axial passages 11 each of which is fitted with a tubular liner 12. The liners 12 project from each end of the member 7 and are fitted with sealing rings 14 and 16 so as to make a fluid tight joint when the bolts attaching the inlet connection 10 and the burner 5 to the member 7 are tightened up. The burner 5 supports the upstream end of the flame chamber 4 by means of a screwed sleeve 24 engaged by a locking sleeve 25. The burner nozzle 20 is formed in a separate end plate held in position on the burner by a screwed sleeve 22. The radial passage 8 not only accommodates the fuel inlet connection but also forms a passage for cooling air for the bearings and shaft. A modification using a single duct burner is also described.
