Abstract
586,572. Gas turbines. SMITH, D. M., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Aug. 11, 1943, No. 13027. [Class 110 (iii)] An auxiliary or augmentor jet AJ is energized by a combustion chamber Ca Ca which receives air from the compressor of the main jet-propulsion unit. The air may be taken from the H.P. end of the compressor or from an intermediate point. The auxiliary unit may include a twotiered jet augmentor with turbine blades ACT and compressor blades D, F. The auxiliary unit may have a compressor which further compresses the air received from the main unit and is driven by a turbine wheel separate from the jetaugmentor. An auxiliary unit without a jetaugmentor has a turbine which drives an airscrew. Another auxiliary unit consists only of a combustion chamber and a jet. Specification 586,551 is referred to.
