Abstract

196,452. Hepburn, H. A. March 15, 1922. Working-fluid supply.-In an internal combustion product turbine of the kind described in Specification 182,893 the operating gas passes through a set of rotor blades and then through a further set of blades, through which also at different sectors thereof induced gas passes, the two gases combining in the exhaust to be dealt with as described in Specification 182,893. The operating gas passes from a combustion chamber 1, Fig. 2, through ejector nozzles 2, rotor blades 4, passages 5, guide blades 6, rotor blades 7 to exhaust. A connection 12 from the vacuum space 3 of the ejector nozzles 2 to the exhaust ensures low pressure at the exhaust. The induced gas enters through nozzle boxes 16, Fig. 1, intermediate between the connections 5 as shown in Fig. 3, and passes through rotor blades 7 to the exhaust. The velocities of the induced and operating gas are arranged to be approximately equal when they enter the blades 7 and when they mix in the exhaust. Fixed guide blades may be provided at the entrance to the connecting passages 5. Steam may be used instead of or in addition to the operating gas. The clearance spaces between the nozzle boxes 16 and the recesses in the turbine casing in which they are located may be flushed out with cold, air or filled with any desired substance.
