Abstract
679,467. Gas turbine plant. STALKER, E. A. May 23, 1947 [Aug. 20, 1942], No. 13957/47. Class 110(iii) A gas turbine has rotor and stator blades 11, 10 with internal cooling channels which open in the leading edges of the blades through a series of slots 31 spaced along the length of the blades and extending in to the concave and convex surfaces. The slots extend diagonally across the leading edge. Longitudinally extending slots 32, 33, 34 for cooling fluid are also formed in the concave and convex surfaces of the blades. The blades are formed with inner and outer shrouds 22, 24 and 15, 16 which together define the passage for the working fluid, and inner and outer passages 27, 13 for cooling air taken from the compressor delivery. The cooling air flowing in the passage 13 is returned to the compressor delivery and is impelled by blades 17, 18. The air in the passage 27 is impelled by blades 23, 26, and air from both passages escapes through channels 19, 25 into the working fluid annulus. Channels 30, 30a deliver cooling air to cavities 42, 43 which open on to the inner surfaces of the shrouds. Specification 679,530 is referred to.
