Abstract

630,395. Turbine rotors. ATKINSON, J. Aug. 7, 1947, Nos. 21541/47, 1682/48 and 2043/48. [Class 110(iii)] Turbine rotors are built up of laminae so that each turbine blade is secured to at least three laminae and the blades and laminae are bonded together as by soldering, brazing, or, spot welding. The laminae 6, Fig. 2, may be bevelled to form spaces entered by correspondingly shaped tongues on the blade 7. The laminae may have the peripheral parts of uniform thickness to receive parallel sided tongues. The blade roots which may be of either fir-tree or key-hole shape may be bonded to the laminae over a part only of the contacting surface. The laminae may be of tapering cross-section as shown in Fig. 8 with annular portions at the periphery which are bonded together. The cavities between the laminae may be connected by passages 31, 35, 36, 35, 39 and so on to a final exit at 41. Cooling air is caused to circulate through the cavities by pump blades 42. Cavities between the laminae may be filled with a sodium salt. Instead of thinning individual laminae, laminar elements may be built up as shown in Fig. 12. Specification 628,036 is referred to.
