662,527. Gas turbine rotors. ATKINSON. J. July 23, 1948 [Aug. 7, 1948; Jan. 20, 1948], Nos. 27430/49 and 27431/49. Divided out of 630,395. Class 110(iii) A turbine or like rotor is built up of three or more discs to form a laminar body to which blades are attached. The discs or laminµ may have a thickness which diminishes towards the periphery as shown in Fig. 1, or the rotor may be built up of laminµ of different diameters, to produce the same effect, as shown in Figs. 6 and 8. In the rotor of Fig. 4, the discs are thinned towards the periphery but have rims of full thickness which abut. Narrow channels 16, 17 are cut in these rims to provide for the circulation of a cooling fluid which enters at 12, passes from one inter-disc space to the next by passages 20, 22, and is evacuated at 25. The chamber enclosed by the disce 24 may be divided by guide blades 23 and, in respect of the cooling fluid, the rotor acts as a pump. To provide cooling spaces, the rims and hubs of the discs may be separted by spacer rings. These spaces may be filled with a sodium salt and sealed. Specification 630,395 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 628,100.
