680,070. Centrifugal pumps. ANDERMATT. C., and GUBELI, V. Sept. 28, 1950 [Sept. 28, 1949; July 26, 1950], No. 23794/50. Class 110 (i) In a centrifugal pump any air or gas entrained in the liquid is homogeneously mixed therewith by means of at least one groove in the walls containing the blade channels, the groove providing a sudden increase in the channel 1 cross-section. Grooves 5, Fig. 5, which may be concentric with the impeller axis, are formed in the side walls of the flow passages between the impeller blades 4. The impeller may have a single disc 2, as shown, the remaining side wall being formed by a position 9 of the pump casing. Alternatively, the disc 2 may be eliminated, or the impeller may be of the double-disc type. A ring 19, grooved on one or both sides, may be provided. The angle between the two surfaces forming each groove can be from 10 to 144 degrees. Fig. 3 shows a modification, with grooves 7 increasing in depth towards the impeller periphery. In the construction shown in Fig. 9, the blades 4 are formed with grooves 13 on one or both sides, and the grooves 5 in the disc 2 are inclined, as shown, with respect to the circumferential direction. The blades may be alternately long and short.
