Abstract
1,163,328. Boundary layer control. BROWN, BOVERI & CO. Ltd. 14 Dec., 1966 [16 Dec., 1965], No. 55929/66. Heading F2R. The stable-working speed-range of an axialflow compressor (blower, fan or pump) is extended by at least some of the blades d having radial bores b which each have an opening a into one face of the blade and a further opening c into the same face, so that the boundary layer can be sucked in through holes a due to the centrifugal force on the air in bores b. The openings a may either all be in the suction or pressure side of the blade d, or alternate between the two sides, Fig. 4 (not shown). The openings a and c may be either normal to the face of the blade d or inclined as in Fig. 5. There may be further bores b each having an inlet a, but having a radial outlet opening into the gap g.
