Abstract

1379075 Radial flow turbines; fans and pumps T B LANYON 16 Jan 1973 [26 Jan 1972] 3691/72 Headings F1C and F1T A radial flow turbine, pump or fan comprises an outer casing C containing at least two blocks B defining a volute chamber G and which are slidable towards or away from each other to vary the throat areas F. The adjusting mechanism comprises screws D which may be controlled individually or by inter-connection to a common hand wheel or lever. The throat areas F may be reduced to zero so as to prevent flow through volute G. Flow through rotor A is centrifugal in the case of a pump or fan and centripetal for a turbine. The working fluid may be a liquid. Figs.7 to 9 (not shown) illustrate modified shapes of blocks B.
