Abstract

1505534 Turbines; compressors MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG AG 20 March 1975 [21 March 1974] 11549/75 Headings F1C and FIT To reduce the vibrations induced in a gas or steam turbine or compressor, e.g. in rotor 4, by the circumferential flow component in the direction of rotor rotation of leakage flow through a labyrinth or proximity seal 5, e.g. between the rotor blade shroud 3 and the casing 2, means are provided upstream of, or in, the seal to eliminate, or reverse the direction of, this circumferential flow component, or to increase an oppositely directed component. As shown, inclined vanes 7a are fixed upstream of the seal on the casing 2 to direct the leakage flow in a counter-rotation direction. Again, axial vanes may be provided upstream or in the seal, Figs. 3a, 4, (not shown). Again, a blocking fluid, e.g. steam, may be directed at the seal through inclined jets (8), Fig. 7, (not shown). The seal may be between the rotor shaft and guide vanes 10.
