726,973. Centrifugal pumps and blowers. KLOCKNER - HUMBOLDT - DEUTZ AKT.- GES. Jan. 21, 1953 [Jan. 28, 1952], No. 1793/53. Class 110 (1). To prevent disruption of the boundary layer, the axial-flow inlet part 1 of the blading of the impeller 2 of a centrifugal pump or blower is of such a configuration that the ratio of the absolute magnitude of the tangential component of the deflecting force per unit area (i.e. the deflecting pressure) to the dynamic pressure-equivalent of the relative velocity lies within the limits 0.4 and 1.4, and the ratio of the deflecting pressure at the inlet to that at the outlet of the part 1 lies within the limits 1.1 and 5. Advantageously, the blade part 1 is shaped so that the latter ratio is constant over its radial extent.
