747,398. Centrifugal pumps &c. GES. DER L. VON ROLL'SCHEN EISENWERKE AKT.-GES. Dec. 5, 1952 [Dec. 8, 1951], No. 30983/52. Class 110(1) A pump, blower or compressor comprises a radial-flow impeller disposed on a shaft and bearing a second radial-flow impeller, the entries to the two impellers being at different radial distances from the axis of the system and the inflow directions being, opposite, means being provided between the impellers for controlling the flow. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2, the main impeller 8 carries a secondary impeller 6 which discharges into the main impeller by way of a stationary guide 7, Fig. 3 shows an embodiment in which the main impeller 11 carries a centripetal impeller 12 and a centrifugal impeller 9. In a modification, the centripetal impeller is replaced by a stationary guide or diffuser. The secondary impeller may run freely on the main impeller and be arranged to be coupled at will to the latter. A number of double impellers may be connected in series.
