Abstract

1,140,334. Centrifugal pumps and fans. S. A. ARMSTRONG Ltd. Jan. 25, 1966 [Jan. 28, 1965], No. 3259/66. Heading F1C. An impeller for a centrifugal pump for liquid or gas comprises a number of one-piece discs 10, Fig. 2, each having alternately protruding and recessed generally radial folds which constitute fluid channels on both faces of the disc, each of the fluid channels being defined by a pair of opposed side walls 14 and a transverse wall 15 or 16, each disc having a central opening intersecting the inner ends of the fluid channels to provide inlets for the fluid channels, the discs being secured together with the fluid channels of one face of each disc aligned with the fluid channels of the opposite face of an adjacent disc, and the discs being arranged in two groups (each group comprising a single disc as shown or more than one disc) on either side of a centre plate 27 so that the fluid channel inlets of each group communicate with each other but not with those of the other group, and end plates 20 secured to the outer faces of the end discs and each having a central inlet aperture 22 in communication with the fluid channel inlets of the adjacent group. The centre plate 27 has a hub 28 with a threaded bore 29 for attachment to a motor shaft. The centre plate may be of greater diameter than the discs and end plates, the pump housing being arranged so that fluid which has passed through the fluid channels on one side of the centre plate flows around the centre plate and then passes through the fluid channels on the other side of the centre plate.
