Abstract

723,813. Turbine and compressor rotors. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd. May 28,1953 [May 30, 1952], No. 13772/52. Class 110 (3). A bladed rotor for a compressor or turbine comprises a disc having a peripheral axiallyextending flange and a row of blades, each blade having its root fitting into a slot in the flange and protruding radially within the flange, a retaining member being located radially within the flange and engaging with the protruding blade root to retain the blade against radial displacement. In the Figure, the discs 1 have integral flanges 2 which extend on both sides of each disc and the blade roots extend through slots formed in the flange. The blade roots are formed with grooves 5 in the side faces into which retaining rings 6, disposed radially within the flanges 2, engage. Grooves 4 formed in the inner surfaces of the blade roots engage the edge of the disc. The retaining rings 6 are enlarged at their mid-portions to form a surface flush with the surface of the flanges 2. The rotor may be assembled by shrinking the disc flanges 2 on to the rings 6 or by freezing the rings 6 and allowing them to expand into the flanges. The casing is formed of sections which are split diametrically, the outer surfaces of adjacent sections 12, 13 being parallel and being engaged by a shrunk-on ring 14.
