Abstract
667,194. Turbines. FIELDEN, G. B. R., and RUSTON & HORNSBY, Ltd. April 27, 1950. [April 29, 1949] No. 11456/49. Class 110(iii). In an axial-flow turbine rotor having at least two stages and comprising spaced discs 10, 11 each carrying a row of blades 17, 18 secured to the disc by fir-tree root fixings and having integral platforms whicla r e substantially contiguous circum ferentially, the inner wall of the working fluid annulus is completed by bridging the gap between mutually adjacent rows of blade platforms by a row of dummy platforms 19 having firtree roots which enter the fir-tree slots of both the adjacent discs. The roots of the blades are narrower axially than the axial width of the disc peripheries and the fir-tree slots so that the ends of the dummy platforms may engage in the slots. The dummy platforms have small slots 20 for ventilating the space between the discs which is supplied with cooling air.
