Abstract
666,259. Turbines and compressors. ROLLS-ROYCE, Ltd. March 21, 1950 [Feb. 11, 1949], No. 3875/49. Class 110(iii) In an axial-flow turbine or compressor having a peripheral row of blades, parts of which form a radially-inwardly facing annular surface to which a fluid is fed for cooling or other purposes, a thin sleeve 33 is disposed inwardly of the annular surface so as to form sealing contact therewith during operation. The sleeve has holes 35 through which fluid passes to the passages 25 in the blades 12 and the sleeve is prevented from displacement by means of tabs 38 engaging in notches in the land 39 on the rotor disc 10. The sealing engagement of the sleeve 33 is assisted by the centrifugal force of the fluid 34. The rotor is formed of two discs 10, 11 between which the blades 12 are clamped by bolts 22 which pass through recesses in the abutting faces of the blade roots. In Fig. 3, the blade platforms 43 have axial extensions 43a which form an inwardly-facing groove 44 in which the sleeve 46 is fitted, apertures 46a being provided in the sleeve which register with bores 45 for the passage of cooling fluid to the blade surfaces.
