724,281. Turbine and compressor rotors. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd. March 31, 1953 [April 2, 1952], No. 8468/52. Class 110 (3). A bladed rotor for an axial-flow turbine or compressor comprises a number of coaxial, axially-spaced rotor elements, each made up of at least one sheet-metal disc and carrying a row of separately-formed rotor blades at the periphery, annular spacing members coaxial with and lying between the rotor elements axially abutting with the sides of the rotor elements towards the peripheries thereof. The spacing members include a sheet-metal channelsection ring the base of which extends axially of the rotor, and a torque-transmitting connection is disposed between each rotor element and the spacing member. In Fig. 1, the rotor elements 1 comprise a pair of discs 1a, 1b on which blades 2 are mounted by means of the forked blade roots 2b and pins 3. The spacers 4 comprise channel-section rings and the parts are held together by means of longitudinal bolts 5. The spacers 4 are reinforced by tubular distance-pieces 4a and by inner channel members 4b. Washers 7 are disposed on the bolts 5 between the discs of the rotor elements. In Fig. 2 the blade roots 2c are formed with axially-extending pegs 2d which engage in holes formed near the peripheries of the discs. Reinforcing members for the channel-section spacers 4 are not fitted in this embodiment. In Fig. 4, the channel-section spacer rings 4 also comprise rings 4a lying just below the level of the blade platforms 2a to form the surface of the rotor between blade rows. The parts are held together by nuts and bolts 11, 12.
