Abstract

763,261. Turbine and compressor bladed rotors. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOP. MENT), Ltd. Jan. 19, 1955 [Jan. 28, 1954; Jan. 28, 1954], Nos. 2612/54 and 2613/54. Class 110 (3). A rotor for an axial-flow compressor or turbine comprises at least three coaxial, axiallyspaced rotor elements, at least the central element comprising two coaxial, axially-spaced discs, and a row of blades having their roots clamped between the disc peripheries, the discs being secured together radially within the blade roots. The discs have annular flanges concentric with the rotor axis projecting axially from their outer faces, each flange being secured to an annular flange projecting from the adjacent face of the adjoining rotor element, means being provided affording an abutment radially outside at least one of said flanges, between the periphery of each disc and the periphery of the adjoining rotor element. A blade-carrying rotor element in Fig. 1 comprises a pair of sheet metal discs 1, 2 dished towards each other, the discs having anglesection rings 6, 7 secured thereto by welding, stiffening rings 8, 9 being welded to the axiallyextending arms of the rings 6, 7. Rings 3, 4 are also secured on the inner sides of the discs 1, 2 at their peripheries and form abutments for the ledges 5b of the blade roots 5a. The discs 1, 2 are secured together by means of a shrunk-on ring 10. Angle-section rings 11, 12 are secured on the outer surfaces of the rings 2, 1 and are stiffened by rings 13, 14 welded thereto. The ring 12 of the end bladecarrying element is shrunk on the flange 15a of the end disc 15 which is bolted to a stub shaft 16 and the rings 11, 12 of adjoining bladecarrying elements are in shrunk engagement with each other; the ring 12 abuts against the periphery of the disc 2. In a similar embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the angle-section rings such as 6, 7 and 11, 12 are in screwed engagement and no shurnk connections are employed. In Fig. 3 (not shown), the anglesection rings such as 11 and 12 with their stiffening rings are disposed at the same radius and are connected by a separate shrunkon ring. In Fig. 4 the angle-section rings 6, 7 and 31 with their stiffening rings 8, 9 and 32 are all at the same radius and are connected together by shrunk-on rings 10, 33. Anglesection rings 36 are secured by welding to the outer faces of the discs 1, 2 and a ring 37 forms an abutment between the discs 2, 1 of adjacent rotor elements. In Fig. 5, cruciform rings 43, 44 are secured by welding to the sheet metal discs 41, 42 of a rotor blade-carrying element, the blade roots 5a being clamped between the parts 43a, 44d of the rings. The two discs are secured together by a ring 46 shrunk on to the axially-extending flanges 43b, 44b of the rings. Adjacent rotor elements are secured together by rings 47 shrunk on to the axially-extending limbs 43c, 44c. The parts 43f, 44f of adjacent rings 43, 44 abut together. The ring 50 secured to the end disc 48 of the rotor has only one axially-extending flange 50b which is secured to the flange 43c of the adjacent element by a shrunk-on ring 47. The embodiment of Fig. 6 (not shown), is similar to that of Fig. 5, except that adjacent flanges are in screwed engagement and shrunk connections are not employed. Specifications 724,123, 728,754, 738,656, 740,757 and 748,903 are referred to.
