Abstract

705,387. Making turbines. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd. Feb. 7, 1952 [Feb. 15, 1951], No. 3690/51. Class 83 (2). [Also in Group XXVI] A radial-flow turbine or centrifugal compressor rotor comprises hollow blades 3 which are constructed from two similar parts welded together along the edges 8, 9 and formed with an opening 10 which is narrower than the largest crosssectional, width: of the blade. Each blade is welded to a shroud ring 4 which is bolted to rings 12, 13 and 14; the rings 12, 13 being bolted to the rotor disc 2 and the ring 14 being bolted to the ring 13. The opening 10 may be disposed. in the inlet side 9 of the blade or dispensed with. In a modification the rotor comprises two such bladed discs which are disposed back to back and are spigoted and bolted together. The members 2, 13 and 14 are made of ferritic steel and the members 3 and 4 aremade of austenitic steel.
