Abstract

724,123. Turbines and compressors. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd. May 28, 1953 [May 30, 1952], No..13773/52. Class 110 (3). A turbine or compressor rotor blade comprises a blade part proper which consists of a strip of material of aerofoil cross-section 11 having a lateral notch 15 in its root end in which notch a part of the rotor engages, and a root block 12 cast on the root end of the strip. The blade shown has notches 15 formed in the leading and trailing edges and the cast-on root block is formed with notches 16 to correspond with the notches in the blade part proper. The notches 15 in the hollow blade shown are formed by pressing out the tabs 13 which are embedded in the cast-on root block. The blades are mounted in a rotor comprising discs 1, 2 having peripheral flanges la, 2a which are strengthened by welded-on rings 6, 7. Annular brackets 3, 4 are also welded on the discs and a ring 5 is shrunk on to these brackets to hold the discs together. Specification 723,813 is referred to.
