Abstract

377,370. Centrifugal pumps. HARLAND ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., WARBURTON, F. G., and COLLINSWOOD, H., Alloa, Clackmannanshire. June 5, 1931, No. 16438. [Class 110 (i).] A centrifugal pump for sewage and the like has an impeller 4 with a single passage 5, the inlet 6 of which registers with the inlet eye 7 in the casing plate 2. The walls of the passage 5 extend spirally from the inlet 6 to the outlet 8, and a cavity 10 in the impeller is provided to obtain balance. The passage and cavity may be open on the front end of the impeller, in which case closure is provided by the casing plate 2. Spiral blades 13 on the external face of the impellerserve to balance end thrust. Sealing water is pumped into the boss 15 through the pipe 19, and any of this water which passes the region 18 is forced by the blades 13 into the pump casing. The eye 7 of the casing is connected to a sump provided with one or more intercepting pipe bends of the same general contour as the impeller passage 5.
