[Class 110 (i).] In centrifugal pumps &c. of the kind in which the impeller blades a are formed with or held between two discs b, c, one or both of which have a central suction eye, centrifugal leakage is prevented by forming on the outer face of one or both discs b, c a packing ring e at or near the periphery and rotating on a ring f formed on the casing or on a fixed liner f<1>. A second. ring g runs on the inner face of the ring f. The disc c and/or the packing drum f may be provided with vanes h, i radiating from the suction eye to create centrifugal force between them. An auxiliary pump m fed with liquid by a pipe p prevents leakage into the stuffing-box k. In another form, the suction eye is formed in the disc remote from the stuffing-box, a second packing ring on the impeller disc coacts with a second ring on the sealing drum, and the latter is adjustable by means of a nut engaging a threaded boss on the drum.
